10th Career Fair Hosted by Councilmember Allen Brings 1,100 Job Seekers and The Wharf Together

10th Career Fair Hosted by Councilmember Allen Brings 1,100 Job Seekers and The Wharf Together

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Ward 6 Councilmember Charles Allen, in partnership with Councilmember Elissa Silverman (At-Large) and the DC Department of Employment Services, welcomes more than 1,100 Ward 6 and DC residents to Arena Stage for his office’s 10th Career Fair.

Today’s event is a little different from past career fairs – most of the employers seeking to make onsite hires or set up interviews are part of The Wharf development, set to open in less than three months. This massive development will be seeking to hire thousands of employees as the three hotels and dozens of businesses come online.

“The Wharf is one of the most exciting developments in the city - DC is about to remember it’s a river city with a stunning waterfront. We need to have Ward 6 and DC residents at the front of the line to take advantage of all of the jobs that come hand-in-hand with new development,” said Councilmember Allen. “That’s what this Career Fair is all about: connecting qualified and prepared job seekers with employers who need to make hires right away. It’s been the secret to our success so far and I think we have a natural fit today with The Wharf and DC residents.”

The event is hosted at Arena Stage in Ward 6. Many applicants were pre-screened and prepared ahead of the event in order maximize opportunities for employers to make hiring decisions on the spot. The Career Fair is not open to walk-up job seekers. More than 350 people attended the most recent Career Fair on April 5, 2017 and over the years, dozens have landed jobs or second interviews right at the Career Fair.
