After a two year hiatus, the Ward 6 Brickies are back in-person! It's hard to believe this is the 16th Annual Ward 6 Brickie Awards. And before we get to celebrate, Councilmember Allen needs to hear from Ward 6 neighbors about who deserves a Brickie award. The criteria is broad among five categories. Leave a note below with your nomination (please include a way to contact you if we have more questions). We're looking for Ward 6 neighbors, organizations, groups, and businesses that go above and beyond to make Ward 6 a great place for us all to call home. The nomination window will close on Wednesday, November 30 at 5 pm.
Submit nominations for the best of the Ward 6 community in the nomination form below. Categories are:
- Neighbor Award
- Community Organization Award
- Business Award
- Civic Pride Award
- Public Service Award
Share with your Ward 6 neighbors and encourage them to submit nominations, then join us at the Hill Center on Wednesday, December 7 at 6pm for Ward 6's annual community get-together.

This team of neighbors has put in countless hours to get dozens of community members to invest and donate and volunteer services to buy back the building that used to house Mott’s Market on 12th Street SE. This team of neighbors is helping to restore a neighborhood market that has been an integral part of our community. In addition, the group is creating more connection between neighbors as they are coming together to continue to raise funds for construction and to give back to the community through a recent use of the store as a food drop off site for Thanksgiving and a future toy drop off site for Christmas. This is an inspiring example of what neighbors can do to positively affect our community- definitely civic pride at work.
I would like to nominate Mott’s Neighborhood Market, LLC for the civic pride award. These amazing neighbors have inspired a community to invest, donate, and volunteer services to buy back and rejuvenate the building that used to house Mott’s Market on 12th Street SE. Their tremendous work is an inspiring example of what neighbors can do to positively affect our community.
This remarkable group rose to the challenge of saving a corner market and reconceiving it as a center of community across generations. Their Thanksgiving food drive was the first indication of their inspired goals for the market’s new role at the heart of our neighborhood, (I formerly lived there and observe from afar in Ohio with great pride.)
