Today beginning at 11:30 am, the Council’s Committee of the Whole will hold a public hearing to consider Ward 6 Councilmember Charles Allen’s bill that would name a local bat species the official mammal of the District of Columbia.

Three panels of local Girl Scouts are prepared to present and make an argument on why the bill should move forward.

When: Today, January 27, 2020, beginning at 11:30 am
Where: Room 120, the John A. Wilson Building, 1350 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW

On March 29, 2019, three Girl Scout troops met with Councilmember Allen to present on local bats native to the District of Columbia and why we should protect bats and not fear them. The legislation introduced by Councilmember Allen, Bill 23-302, “The Little Brown Bat Official State Mammal Designation of 2019” was inspired by that presentation. Today is the public hearing on the bill and will feature the latest research by Girl Scout Troops 44051, 44047, and 44046.
