I'm reaching out to share a decision you probably won't find very surprising - we are going to postpone the Ward 6 Budget Town Hall, originally scheduled for this coming Wednesday evening. A lot has changed since we first planned to hold this annual event.
Last Tuesday, the Council passed emergency legislation to make a wide range of changes, many of which I've covered here. But we also pushed back the deadline for the Mayor to send down her draft of the budget. Given how much is going on and how much has changed for both District residents and the revenue the city can plan around to fund our operations, we wanted to give the Mayor, the Council, and the Office of the Chief Financial Officer more time to create a clear picture as we plan the budget for next year, which will begin October 1, 2020.
Don't worry, I still plan to hold this event once we know what the next budget looks like. I will reach out soon with an updated timeline for the budget and a budget town hall. Most likely, we'll be holding a Facebook Live event to provide an update on the budget and take questions or comments remotely. My team and I are still thinking through the best way to make this as accessible as possible.
Until then, please stay inside and away from groups, and contact anyone on my staff here with issues.
Also, I am sending out regular updates on our e-newsletter. If you aren't on our general mailing list, you can sign-up quickly from the home page of my website.
