Please please please do not split the d6 or 96 buses. They are critical to Ward 6 residents being able to het across town on one bus with no transfers. Transfers are the bane of bus riding because you can’t plan then properly due to the not always precise service times.

These are the points I want WMATA to fully understand and comprehend about the Better Bus Network Vision Proposal:
- The D6 bus route is one the most essential routes in the DC, not just vital to Ward 6. It is one of the, if not the only, true cross-town route that many people depend on (even when it’s late or misses a run). A better alternative to breaking this route into 2 separate routes would be to increase the frequency and possibly minor changes to the neighborhoods on either end of the route.
- Driver safety MUST be included in the equation, especially with the addition of more routes coming into 24hr service. As a frequent bus rider myself, it goes without saying that rider safety is important. But WITHOUT the drivers being safe from all potential threats and dangers, rider safety becomes a moot point. While being enclosed in plexiglass is one answer, potentially having a 1 security officer with each driver should be looked into. If this takes away from potential services but increases the safety of the drivers and riders, it’s at least worth the research.
- Lastly, WMATA must not operate in a vacuum and really look into the faces of it’s riders and answer some of the tough questions about proposed routes, safety, and budget concerns. New proposals are always good in theory, but the true information and intel comes from the feedback of the residents that live on these routes and use the routes in their daily lives.
