Statement from Councilmember Charles Allen on US Attorney's Office D
Statement from Ward 6 Councilmember Charles Allen, Chair of the Committee on the Judiciary and Public Safety, regarding the US Attorney’s Office declining prosecution in the case of Terrence Sterling:
"My heart goes out to the family and friends of Terrence Sterling, who for months have sought answers regarding his death. I cannot imagine the pain of losing a child or a sibling and then waiting more than nine months only to be told there will be no recourse through the judicial system. It is a tragedy that this exchange - which at minimum broke several MPD policies and practices - resulted in the loss of Mr. Sterling's life.
Photos from Ward 6 Week 2017
We biked. We played with puppets. We read books and explored the Hive. We boated and explored the Anacostia River. We donated 550 diapers to the DC Diaper Bank. We watched the Nationals hit EIGHT homers. We watched an outdoor movie and took in a play. In short, we Ward 6'd.
Last week was Ward 6 Week and it was a blast. Thanks to the hundreds of Ward 6 residents who joined us at events celebrating the great neighborhoods of Ward 6 and the people who make it such a wonderful place to call home. We put together this photo collection to show just how big and fun our community is - see you next year!

Neighborhood Update 8-29-17

There's nothing quite like the first day of school. Our daughter started Kindergarten last week, with staff and families welcoming students back with a red carpet and lots of high-fives! As a dad, I couldn't have been happier to see her face light up as she greeted familiar teachers and friends. Of course, putting on my Ward 6 Councilmember hat, I was also pleased to see so many students have a great first day at schools all across Ward 6 this week. My staff and I visited several schools on opening day to check in with principals and parents. Whether major or minor renovations, new principals and teachers, and everything in-between... it seems most people had a great start to the new school year. Let me know what you saw and heard, especially if something didn't go as well as it should have.

Neighborhood Update
June is flying by. It's already time for summer vacations, Fourth of July celebrations, and pool and camp season! I'm looking forward to a vacation with my family later this summer, as well as the upcoming annual recess break for the Council that will let me get out into Ward 6 even more for a few weeks. Be sure to save Monday, July 24 through Saturday, July 30 for Ward 6 Week! We're lining up a bunch of fun events throughout Ward 6 to celebrate summer and explore our community. More info coming on this soon -- but just know, I am really excited about the plans we're finalizing.
