Today, Councilmember Charles Allen (Ward 6) was asked to continue his leadership as Chair of the Council’s Committee on the Judiciary and Public Safety by Council Chairman Phil Mendelson, as well as take on a leadership role as Co-Chair of the Council’s new Special Committee on COVID-19 Pandemic Recovery.

Today, Mayor Muriel Bowser announced she would be nominating Assistant Chief Robert Contee to lead the Metropolitan Police Department. The Council will need to advise and consent on the Mayor’s nominee, a process that will be led by the Committee on the Judiciary and Public Safety.

Judiciary Committee Advances Three New Bills
Committee on the Judiciary and Public Safety approves bills on opioids overdose prevention, overhaul of professional licensing for returning citizens, and stronger legal protections for vulnerable road users.
